Troubleshooting
The popup shows "this page can't be scanned."
This is expected on Chrome-internal pages (chrome://...), the Chrome Web Store's own pages, and a few other browser-protected surfaces that extensions aren't allowed to read. It's not an error — open a normal webpage and scan that instead.
A scan shows mostly Inconclusive results.
This usually means the page links to a lot of sites that don't allow cross-origin requests, rate-limit automated checks, or require a login — all normal browser/server behavior, not a bug. Inconclusive is never evidence the link is actually broken.
I hit the daily scan limit.
The free tier allows 40 page scans a day, resetting daily. Full-site scans have their own separate, flat limit of 10 a day shared by free and paid users. An optional Pro upgrade removes the page-scan limit only.
Chrome's permission prompt appeared when I clicked "Scan entire site."
That's expected and correct — full-site scanning requires a real, per-site Chrome permission grant. You can decline it; declining just cancels that one action and doesn't affect ordinary page scans.
The dashboard stayed blank after starting a scan.
Try reloading the extension (chrome://extensions → the reload icon on Link Alpha's card) and scanning again. If it keeps happening on a specific page, email us with the page URL (or a description if it's not public) and what you saw.
Known, current limitations
- Cross-origin browser restrictions, timeouts, rate-limiting, and login walls all produce an Inconclusive result — Link Alpha cannot force a definitive answer past these, by design.
- Full-site scanning covers up to 25 same-origin pages per crawl and is capped at 10 site-scans a day; it does not use
robots.txtor a sitemap. - Only
<a href>links are checked — not images, scripts, stylesheets, or in-page anchor targets. - English only — no other languages are currently supported.
- Chrome only — no Firefox, Edge-specific, or Safari build exists.
